My Foray Into Scrumpy.

A Memory of Minehead.

Born in Taunton, christened in St. Michael's church in 1940 and lived on Parkhouse Road on and off for several years until 1956. Had my first drink of scrumpy at the Plume of Feathers. Returning home from choir practice I passed the P of F and heard some jollity therein, so decided to go in (1955 - yes, I was 15). I asked for a pint of scrumpy and the bartender said that he thought that half a pint would be a better measure. I swigged it down and promptly slid under the table to everyone's amusement (except mine). I remember the price: ninepence a pint, and five pence a half. I'll never forget the Plume of Feathers and am saddened to see it gone.- Simon Richard Farrow

What a memory. My first scrumpy was in Buckinghamshire. I remember one morning at work one of my friends was at his desk and looked green. He said he felt ill. I told the accountant and he said could I take him to the cottage hospital? Which I did. They transferred him to another hospital with suspected alcholic poisioning. He had bought a flagon of it and had it with some friends. I had never seen someone green and I was really worried I can tell you. Oh the sixties always something new. Thanks for that wonerful memory
