I went to western and mr Ottaway threw the chalkboard at you can't remember mr Houghton doing that .
G'day Frank. So Bill Otway was still around in your time. He drove the most ancient Austin Seven in my time 1947-50. What a great school. Bert Houghton was the art master. He arrived there after demob, was one of the forgotten army, actually Air Force, in Malaya. It was Mr Gautry the French teacher who was so deadly with the chalk. Graham Pickford taught English, and maths, left Western Road to take over headship at the school on the way to Colliers Wood, and much later offered me the job of teaching maths. I declined and emigrated to Auckland, New Zealand. Les Deubert was head master, and his brother ran the Bond Road School. I always considered myself lucky having teachers that had seen 'real' life surviving in the Forces. I'm looking for a former girlfriend, Margaret Day, who was at the girl's school same time as me. We were both local hurdles champions. Is there anyone out there got any info that could help??? Thanks regards, Brian Patrick
