Nostalgia
A Memory of Mottingham.
I lived in Dorset Road, Mottingham from birth, 1947. I have so many happy memories of what was then a real village. I can remember that no one owned a car in our road and it became our playground with hopscotch, marbles etc. I remember the old dairy with horses at the back where the motorcyle shop is now. I remember the old fish shop, the corner stores, the old Co-op, Phillips and Dear. I can remember our treat was a box of crisps from the offlicence on the corner of Devonshire Road. I have reason to fear dentists after visiting the dentist that used to be in the High Street. I too remember the horse chestnut trees and conker collecting, also what we then called the terrifying "june bugs" that used to fall from the trees. We used to play in the playing fields and walk up to Mottingham Station where the Tarn is and Fairy Hill park. It is quite scary looking back.
