A contemporary guide book offers a poetic description: 'Above rise on all sides hoary, lichen-covered cliffs, rocks piled on rocks, tunnelled, ribbed and groined, with chasms and natural arches, like the ruins of some vast cathedral.' My family used to stay at Elm Cottage on Trewoon Road in Mullion for many of our summer holidays during the 1970's. The cottage belonged to a Mrs Kent, known to us affectionately as Aunty Ellie, who at that time lived in Caerleon in Wales with her Son and daughter in law Ted and Jean. My parents, Dot and Reg Poynter, bought the Mounts Bay in about 1948 and turned it into a hotel where we lived as a family until 1960.
