In Nether Stowey, you are in Samuel Taylor Coleridge country: he rented a cottage in Lime Street from 1796; whilst here, he wrote 'The Ancient Mariner' and 'Kubla Khan', the latter famously interrupted by the visitor from Porlock. Here, at the junction of St Mary Street and Castle Street on the right, which leads to the Norman castle ruins, is the Clock Tower of 1897 topped by its timber belfry and weathervane.
