My Early Life In New Haw

A Memory of New Haw.

I was born in new haw 1948 at 28 linden close in the bungalow that I lived in until I married when I was 22. had a brother john, two sisters marion and jean who despite differences later in life I loved them all. my dad worked like many more at Vickers and my mum stayed home and raised us all.
they where without doubt the happiest days of my life. only equalled by my life after I married and had two smashing daughters then three granddaughters.
linden close was a cul de sac which you entered from Scotland bridge road into Florence ave then turn right into linden close where I lived, or left to what we call the other end. in the middle was a bit of waste ground we called the cut. it was nearly all bungalows but there where a couple houses one next door owned by mrs scott she had a daughter Gillian. down our end lived us the harrisons, then mrs Gibson who I loved dearly she was a second mum to me great great lady always listened to my woes right up to when she died. I used to get her shopping from mr hunts right up until I got married. then the Redmond family then newtons, waghorn hawthorns ian was one of my best mates but we would fight on what seemed a daily basis. opposite side of road next to the cut was the coopers, then ruffle's (not sure about the spelling) woodheads next then waghorns, then bill turner. the nation family grenvile was there son I think there was a daughter also. mrs weaver her and her husband rode scooters back then. mr & mrs brown albert and dolly if I remember right they had 3 daughters Diane, june and Sandra I used to swap comics with Sandra, don't know why I remember mrs brown never dried the dishes said it was unhealthy leave them to dry on there own, they were lovely family. then mr & mrs taylor he was father chistmas at garnet and jones in west byfleet. but if our ball went in his garden we had to sneak in to get it back, but they were a nice old couple. helen egalton (spelling wrong) then mrs mosley. there was then a big bit of waste land which much later was built on and the buds lived there. next mr & mrs scott with daughter Gillian. that was them all from our end of the close nicer people you could not hope to meet, as kids we must have drove them mad but I think people were more tolerant of kids back then. we all had the time of our lifes living there great place great people great times. tin pan alley played most nights right until it got dark. its been great remembering linden close and all these people, if I missed anyone sorry. may be right some more later
