10 Years In New Pitsligo
A Memory of New Pitsligo.
I was born in Aberdeen in 1942 and later that year the Germans started to bomb Aberdeen so it was decided to relocate to New Pitsligo to make things easier for the family in general, My grandfather was born and brought up in Bonnykelly and he had an old school friend, Rob Chalmers, who rented a property to us attached to his at the south end of the village - 144 High Street. We lived there until approximately 1948 when we were given a council house in Low Street - number 42. We lived there until early 1953 when my dad re-enlisted and we moved away. I have very fond memories of my time in New Pitsligo. One of my most wonderful memories is the headmistress of the junior school arranged for some of us girls to be taught to make lace. I still have some of the bobbins but sadly the cushion has long since gone, probably lost or left behind in one of the many moves. I have revisited the village on a few occasions and apart from a few cosmetic changes, it is pretty much the same as when I left all those years ago.
