More about this scene
The crypt, as it is called, is a vaulted apartment located in the northern part of the west front. It is 45?ft long by 22?ft wide, and its outer wall is 7?ft 6in thick. Though it looks Norman, it is 13th-century; given the then layout of the castle, it was almost certainly used as a guardroom.
