Built at a total cost of £4000 including land, St Leonard's Church opened in 1873, the same year that St Leonard's district was created. Built of stone in the early decorated style, the church could accommodate 600 people.

I loved to sing, and asked when we were in school (Mount Parish C of E) if any of us girls would like to join the Church Choir at St Leonard's, as there was only three boys and a couple of mature males, left, so they decided to ask girls to join! My dad was a choir boy here in the late 20's and early 30's he was born in 1919.
The funeral of my grandad, Joseph Cobb, was the last one to take place at St Leonard's Church before it was demolished.
