More about this scene
Despite its slighting, Newark Castle is still imposing. To the left is the splendid three-storey gatehouse built by the cathedral masons of Alexander, Bishop of Lincoln. Nearest the camera is the north-west tower, hexagonal in design, and to its right is the postern gate.
