Newcastle Under Lyme, High Street 1965

More about this scene
When this picture of the High Street was taken, there would be plenty of outlets from which it was possible to buy tobacco products. Not so in 1633, when there were only three licensed sellers in the whole town: grocers Philip Sherwin (who later became mayor) and Thomas Hunt, and the apothecary John Stubbs.
