Mushroomsfor Sale

A Memory of Newgale.

My brother and I used to go around this caravan site several times during our annual 6 week school summer holiday. We would sell plastic bags of fresh field mushrooms that we had picked at nearby solva. we would sell a 1 pound bag of mushrooms for the princely sum of 2 shillings and were never short of customers. The field that we used to pick them was a closely guarded secret but when we picked them, if it was raining, the mushrooms used to pop up out of the ground as if by magic until the whole field was almost covered like snow . It was amazing. The car park in the background was occasionally used for a helicopter from nearby Brawdy air base to land so that the children could look at the helicopter close up - it was great fun !
