Pinch Cottage

A Memory of Newgale.

My family stayed at this cottage several times each year when my brother and I were young including long hot summers when we were on school holidays. The cottage was provided as part of his job to my Uncle, Bertie Davies who was married to my Auntie Nora Davies formerley Nora Kelly who was born and brought up in Milford Haven. They had two sons Michael and Kevin and two daughters Bernadette and Jayne who were my cousins. My mum was her sister Maureen and my dad was George Wyatt who originally came from Roch and then latterley Haverfordwest. I have many, many happy memories of Newgale and loved every minute of my childhood there.

My father was evacuated to Pinch Cottage during World War 2 around 1943. My grandfather worked on building the aerodrome. We have re-visited Newgale numerous times and always make a point of driving past the cottage. Today I have given this print to my aunt who is now 80 years old she is over the moon bringing back all childhood memories of the wonderful beach and the garden is exactly as she remembered 75 years ago. I had the photo reproduced onto canvas the sepia colours seem to fit and blend so well.
Hello Lorraine
Lovely to read you comments relating to Pinch Cottage, Newgale.
I found your little bit of history so interesting and it was a truly magical place.
Things were very different in those days and I think it was about 1959 when we first started staying at the Pinch. When your father was evacuated there, my mother was living at Middle Mill and used to take a short cut across Brawdy air base as a teenager sometimes as the bombers were coming back to base after an operation - exciting times.
Incidently, a footpath led through the heather and gorse right to the point where this photo was taken and is children used to go up to that point quite often - not sure that it would particularly appeal to youngsters in this day and age, but at the time we used to love it.
Please give my very beet wishes to your aunt and I am so please that the phone brought back happy memories for her.
Anthony Wyatt
