More about this scene
The Carlton Hotel with its cupola (right) dominated the High Street. It was demolished in 1977 and replaced by Boots. To the left is Musks, butcher and sausage makers, displaying their Royal Warrants. The rest of the group, including the Congregational Church of 1863, were demolished in the 1960s, when a new church was built on the site.
