Newton Poppleford, Ye Olde Toll House c.1955

More about this scene
Newton Poppleford takes its name from the round stones, or popples (like the pobbles of Budleigh Salterton), that abound in the area; it was a fording place over the Otter for centuries before its stone bridge was built. Its delightful thatched toll house was built in 1758, and has been recently renovated and slightly extended.
