Beechholme

A Memory of Nork.

I grew up in the Children's Home, Beechholme that was only a few yards from Nork, where children from the home went to spend their pocket money. I lived at Beechholme from 1956 to 1962. I spent much of my time in the home wandering over the Downs studying insects. Much of the land that we wandered over has deteriorated now into impenetrable woods and scrubland through lack of management and most of the insects of the chalk downland that I knew there have died out. In the picture I have chosen of Nork is the MG Farina car owned by the superintendent of the home, Mr.Banner. The number plate is 8892 BP and it was bought in 1959 to replace a pre-war Vauxhall.
