My family moved to Fairlight Avenue from Potter's Bar in 1949 when I was four, when my dad got a job as signwriter at Walthamstow Stadium [as the dog track was known then]. I went to King's Road C of E and Wellington Avenue at eleven (my brother got into Chingford County High) and we both joined the 40th Chingford scouts, at the bottom of Endleberry Road. Does anyone remember Phillips, the map makers on Victoria Road? The building seems to be being used by a company called BraiForm these days. I worked at Phillips for a brief six months on first leaving school in 1964. I worked in the office off the lithographic area and worked on a light table using Indian ink and old fashioned steel nib pens to outline the little boxes that would eventually be where road ...see more

I moved to Nth Chingford in 1955 from Walthamstow ,I lived in Endlebury Rd and first went to the Cof E primary school up the road and then went to Wellington Ave a brilliant school with good teachers .I joined the scouts just round the corner from Endelbury Rd the hut was a terrific place for our activities.Chingford was a good place to live and on Saturdays I used go down the mount and wander along all ...see more
