Aw Penmans 221 Ballards Lane N12

A Memory of North Finchley.

Hello All,
New on here, my name is John Carpenter, born 1949 in Palmers Green N13. Moved out to Welwyn Garden City, as a lot of families were, to the "new towns" just after the war. I did all my schooling there. I left WGC in 1964, moving back to New Southgate N11. Me first job was as a nailer, in the fur trade at 24 Curzon St Mayfair. Moving to 33 Margaret St W1. The Queen's furrier. They'd stand me up against a wall, and shot me now day's.
Leaving the fur trade, I got a job at AW Penman's in Finchley. Penman's was a credit retailer, twixt Perry's the Ford dealership, and the Moss Hall Tavern. The credit retail shopping thing has long disappeared. Leaving Penman's in 1971, to go carpet fitting, I left London for Cornwall in 1978. Been here ever since. Lorry driving from 1996, till I retired in 2014. Married to Denise, we have several children between us, plus loads of Grandchildren, Cheers all, John.
