We came back to Tidworth in 1944 from South Africa where we had been evacuated to from Egypt via Palestine in 1940. Father had been repatriated from Stalag VIIIB and was posted to BMH Tidworth. We lived in New Zouch Avenue and I went to school, then aged 10, in the Garrison School in the barracks. I remember behind the school was the American PX and the 'Yanks' would throw us ...see more
My brother, Terry Vivash attended Tidworth Down School from 1948 until around 1950 when he was accepted for the Adcroft School of Building in Trowbridge. Terry passed away in 2007 but, amongst his effects I found a certificate awarded to him as a member of the Tidworth Down School 4X400 relay team which came first in the county sports at Trowbridge. I attended this school in September of 1953 until December 1954, when I left and went to Salisbury College of Further Education. My father was in the army and we came back from Germany in July 1953 to live in married quarters at Clarendon Terrace, the regiment being in Bhurtpore Barracks.
