Tidworth Down Secondary Modern School

A Memory of North Tidworth.

Hi I was a pupil at Tidworth Down Secondary Modern School from 1957 to 1959, those were very happy years. We were an army family living in Perham Down married quarters. My name was then Caroline Turner, I have fond memories of former pupils and teachers from that school. Ann Murfin, from Collingbourne Dulcis, Terry Bradbury, Roger (Tilly) Talbot and I think John Entwistle?? all whom were best friends., Rita Stokes, Peter and Jennifer Jones and Leslie Hutchinson, who lived in Perham.. all of whom I wonder where they are right now? I'm am now living in Waterford Ireland for the last 50 years, and have made several trips back to visit all the old villages and towns on Salisbury Plain, Does anyone remember Mr Bungy at the school, He taught Chemistry? also the headmaster was Mr. James. There was also a Mrs O'Keeffe who taught maths. I would love to connect with anyone from that era once again,

Hi, I was at Tidworth Down earlier that you, from Sept 53/Dec 54 after we came back from Germany. I lived in Clarendon Terrace, between Assaye and Bhurtpore barracks. Mr James was the head back then, "Jimmo" as he was known, very tall big man. We were all in awe of him. Mr Reason - "Pop" - was chemistry teacher, Miss Evans taught sewing, Miss Lodwick another Mr James, Miss Fraser (P.T.), and a few more whose names escape me! It is now known as Wellington Academy, quite a bit posher than when we were there.
Many thanks for your comment on Tidworth Down. It brought a lot of memories flooding back to me. It was a much gentler and happy world then don't you think?, Are you still living in the Salisbury area? I have been back a few times to the Salisbury/Andover area just to see how it has changed over the years. The school is still there, but it is more modern looking. We had many a great hockey match in the front field!

Hi, my name is Trevor Farroll and I went to Tidworth Down Secondary School in 1948 to 1950. Is there anyone who was there when I was?
My name is Peter Lester and I attended Tidworth Down School and left in 1957 to become an apprentice aircraft engineer at Thruxton Airfield. My school pals were Keith Brandwood. Ronald Sprunt, Barry Leadbetter, John Poole and many more. I remember all the teachers mentioned in previous posts but one is left out is Mr Helliwell the music teacher who got sacked after he caned the entire class including the girls. I now live in a old fishing village in SE Cornwall and moved here in 1979 . I often wonder what happened to my old schoolmates. If any have survived contact me on pblester@outlook.com.
