North Walsham, The Market Place c.1950

More about this scene
North Walsham has a long history as a weaving town producing a lightweight cloth; there were also foundries here manufacturing farming machinery and implements, which were sold all over the area from farming shows. The buildings in the market place are typical three-storey houses with shops underneath. Most are family-owned, supplemented by more well-known names such as Boots (left). Lord Nelson was a pupil for three years at the town's Paston Grammar School.
