Before agriculture became mechanised, large numbers of people were employed on the land; in Gloucestershire many of them lived in tied farm cottages such as these. In the foreground we see a millstone, possibly once used to grind corn, but more likely to crush apples for cider making.

I have no personal memories but my family history shows me that the HART familiy lived and worked in the nearby villages and some were born in North and East Leach. I am curious as to life in a bygone English village.
