The Hewer Alias Radbourn Of Northleach And Turkdean
A Memory of Northleach.
Earlier this year I visited Northleach my husband's Ancesters hail from there. His great great Grandfather William Hewer alias Radbourn bought Leygore farm in 1832, a farm of 800 acres according to records, at that time . It was farmed after his death by his son George and wife Elizabeth (nee Garne) They had 13 children, all survived to adulthood. As I walked around the village centre I couldn't help but think of Elizabeth and all her children doing the weekly shop.
The graves of George and Elizabeth are in the cemetetary at Turkdean. As I was driving to Turkdean I passed Leygore Farm.
I would like to write to the current owners as I understand from local historic notes I have read that William Hewer initials are carved in a barn. I wondered if they were still there or even if the barn is even still in existence. So if any reader can help me with this. I would so appreciate the information.
William, Hannah and their son Joseph are all buried there.
Georges son Frederick Ernest moved to Downham in Norfolk. From there to Massingham where he farmed. My husband's father John George Hewer married Constance Everett at Cley next Sea in Norfolk, this is where my husband Bill was born. They moved to North Pickenham late 1940s farm to turkeys. Also provide eggs to Bernard Mathews for breeding.
Bill and I moved to New Zealand in Dec 1972.

I have a painting of a horse in a stable which belonged to ‘Uncle Joe Hewer’ .
I have a photograph of a shooting party outside a house in Norfolk, showing some of the Hewer family, Including Ernest, I believe a cousin to my Grandmother. She was Mary Eleanor Minchin, and married my Grandfather, Samuel Walker.
