More about this scene

In the foreground we see the roof of Bury House and its stables at the western end of The Bury. Facing south, Bury Villas are on the corner of Church Street (centre), which leads to the High Street. Diagonally opposite this junction stand the newly-built Palace Gate House and the farmhouse and buildings of Palace Gate Farm, next to the former deer park. Covering some 500 acres, the park was probably in existence in Saxon times; it was disparked and became farmland in the 17th century. To the west, The Priory, dated 1448-49 – a former rectory of the Chancellors of Salisbury, who were also rectors of Odiham – can be glimpsed through the trees. Nearer to the camera is the roof of The Close, a house dating from the 17th century.

A Selection of Memories from Odiham

For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our website to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was, prompted by the photographs in our archive. Here are some from Odiham

Sparked a Memory for you?

If this has sparked a memory, why not share it here?

I owned 'Hillside Cottage' an an area known as Hillside just outside the town.
My parents lived in 'The Coachman's Cottage', which can be seen on the brow of the hill in King's Street, 1950-60. 'Lovelace' is almost opposite.
My Great, Great grandparents, John and Jane Crocker lived here in 1915 before they both died.
My grandfather, and his family came from Odiham. They lived at Bury Cottage until at least 1908. I am connected to the Peskett, Clark, Champion, Pink, Lee and Windiate families of Odiham. Regards, Andrew.
