The steep valleys, or cloughs, which run off the foothills of the Pennines were often utilised by Victorian water engineers for the construction of reservoirs to provide drinking water for the burgeoning industrial cities in the plains below. Ogden Reservoir, north-west of Illingworth in West Yorkshire, dammed the waters of the Hebble Brook, and is now backed by the wind farm on Ovenden Moor.
