More about this scene
This view, looking west, shows E J Pipe's general store smothered in advertisements (left). This is now the Butley Oysterage, and the bay window has been removed. The earlier Oysterage, next door, has become an antiques shop. The market is dominated by the castle (centre right), which was built by Henry II between 1165 and 1173. The scaffolding shows that it is under repair by the Ministry of Works.
