Growing Up In 1944

A Memory of Orsett.

My father was in the Norwegian forces during the war - and my mum and myself - then 2 years old were lucky enough to serve and live at Orsett Hall with Ellis and John Whitmore .
We lived there till August 1945 when the war was over and we could go back to Norway safely .
Have been to Orsett three times since then but see no familiar faces .

I will need to double check, but i am sure my grandparents (on my father's side) used to work for Colonel Whitmore. Grandad worked as the gardener and nannny helped out as cook when the main cook was away or sick. Their surname was Tyler. My father's parents moved from Woldingham in Surrey to Orsett when he was about 14 so that would have been 1941.
