Perhaps the girls are buying a bus ticket here, but the Walls ice cream signs suggest they may be after something more exciting. Walls and Lyons Maid were generally the only ice cream sellers on show in shops during these years. Nearby is the 13th-century Penrice Castle, which was originally built by the Normans after finally gaining control of the Gower in 1099.

Mrs Cobb from Bedford would bring children for a weeks holiday during the summer holidays. They stayed in a large white building on a corner (there was a dairy farm across the road), it was like a community hall, maybe it was used by the Brownies or something! It was walking distance to the beach. They would walk along a long lane down to the beach. I am not 100% sure of the details but if anyone has any memories of this or information I would be grateful, thanks.
My Aunty Evelyn ran the post office in Oxwich for many years. There was a huge orchard attached to the post office. Upon retirement, she had the bungalow built next door and lived there until her death. As a young boy, I lived in the coastguard cottages nearby, before my father Frank Bevan, was posted to Flamborough Head in the Coastguard service.
