Lived Pailton 1957 1963

A Memory of Pailton.

I used to live 61, Coventry Road, where my Dad died in that house in 1961. Mum used to work at AWA Bitterswell, and my friend was Christine Bakewell who lived at 34, Coventry Road. Her Dad had an engineering business in Market Harborough. I went to school at Monks Kirby, then Newbold Grange School, Rugby. I didn't like village life as when I became older, there was never anything to do ! The Co-op used to be there but closed, the Doctor was Dr. Killey. There was Lewis' coaches, also Lewis' farm where Mum used to get the milk from. I moved back to Coventry where I was born in 1963.

My name is Martin Longmore, I lived at 7 Coventry road, PAILTON from 1951 to 1973. Our house was located opposite Joey Foxon's farm. Arrowsmiths ran the bakery next door. Mrs. Cunningham ran the post office, Ada Dews ran the hardware shop. Mr, Hunt, the Co-oP. Ces Lewis and his wife ran the paper shop/small groceries, plus their fleet of coaches. Bekky Simson, landlady of The Fox PH,
Molly Shields landlady of Golden Lion and so on. I am trying to write a book about life in Pailton during my time there.
Hello Martin

My name is Catherine Lines. I am the Great-Granddaughter of Cecil (Ces) Lewis. I am the Grandaughter of Ron Lewis (Ginge).

I have stumbled across this page as my Great-Uncle Norman passed away on 1st June this year.

My mum was Valerie Lines and my late uncle was Colin Lewis (both children of Ron Lewis)
Hello Catherine,

Just found your comment and read your association with Pailton. Naturally, I knew your Great-Grandfather very well, he was usually in the shop on Sunday mornings selling the papers which I used to fetch for my dad. Also, Ces used to run a taxi business as well as the coaches and I remember him having two lovely Daimler cars, one was a century and the other a conquest. My dad and I would go fishing on Saturdays on the canal at North Kilworth; always wanting the ' last cast ' we would generally miss the bus. A phone call from the pub at North Kilworth to Ces would have a Daimler with us in about half an hour.I knew all of the Lewis's but of course they were a lot older than me.
Valerie Lines, the name sounds familiar. If I remember rightly the family lived on the Coventry road near to the Hayes family I am sure there was an orchard near-by with cox's apple trees, I used to scrump them as was the custom in those day. Currently living in Stoke Mandeville, Bucks with my wife of forty six years Irene.
