More about this scene

The tulips bloom in beautiful profusion, and the house is reflected in the almost glassy stillness of the pond. Today the gardens are included in the English Heritage Register of Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest; and yet here in the heart of affluent suburbia, the condition of this major house is described by English Heritage as very bad and of the adjacent stables as poor. Enough said.

Palmers Green
I came across the stories related to Palmers Green and was immediately taken back to my early years at Franklin House school in the 50's and 60's. I smiled when I read about the visits to Dom's Cafe, just a five minute walk from the school. My entire lunch money would be spent on a Cola float, Coke and ice cream with a cherry and a fruit pie for dessert! How everyone stayed so skinny in those days I have no idea! ...see more

Alderman's Hill
I lived in a flat over Walton, Hassell & Port in Alderman's Hill. Situated on the corner of Groveland's Road opposite Broomfield Park. Spent a lot of time in the park, on the swings etc & collecting conkers. I was living there from 1948 - 1956 (4 years old till 12 ). I went to Hazelwood Lane School. The headmistress was Miss Belfontaine. Walked there & back four times a day! Buying three pennyworth ...see more

Lakeside Road Nursing Home
Hello everyone. I lived at 409 Green Lanes in1960. Does anyone know of an old folks home in Lakeside Road around that time, possibly number 59? Any help on how to find out would be much appreciated.

Swimming Pools
I fondly remember "Barrowell Green swimming pool. After the war it was on weekly visit. Now hears a thing opposite the pool was a old derelict house who lived there? and what happened to the house?

Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
