You would not imagine from this picture that this area is dominated by caravans and seaside souvenir shops. In 1927 Malcolm Campbell achieved a land speed record of 174.88 mph on Pendine Sands. Unfortunately, a month later his Welsh rival, J G Parry-Williams, was killed attempting to beat the record.
