A Memory of Penge.

At the end of Penge Lane opposite the Crooked Billet pub was an island on which there was a shelter, public toilets and a horse drinking trough. The 227 buses used to turn round here before the route was extended to the Crystal Palace. We used to empty the used bus ticket boxes to add to our collection of free play things. I can remember the whine of the engines as the drivers changed down a crash gear box to get the bus up Swan Hill into Bromley.

Shame your family moved you out to Downe but thank you for keeping in touch through the old boys call of 52. How was the Lloyds Register of Shipping on Fenchurch St?
