More about this scene
This clock tower monument was erected in 1861 as a memorial to Philip, the eldest son of Sir George and Lady Musgrave of Edenhall, who had died two years earlier in Madrid aged twenty-six. The Musgrave family were one of the most ancient in the area and the monument, a tribute from the town and neighbourhood, was a mark of the high esteem in which they were held. Built of buff-coloured stone in the Victorian Gothic style, it stands in stark contrast with the largely Georgian architecture of the red sandstone buildings that surround it.
