Born & Bred From 1960

A Memory of Penycae.

Hi everyone , I was born in trem-y-gardden november 1960 but only lived there untill i was 6 months old , then my parents moved us up to the top end of pen-y-cae onto cristionydd , Now my memories of living there looking back as a youngster , I remember the first kind of bin waste wagon that had a half circular back with 4 push up doors (2 either side) for them to empty the old metal bins into and that was when they collected the bin from your door , The street was very neighbourly , a bit like coronation street were everyone knew everyone's business , but in a friendly way , Then as i grew up , I remember the old bryn-y-barket Farm at the bottom of the road , Also every bonfire night in november a gang of us used to build a bonfire on the back field and all neighbours used to share the cost of fireworks and my aunty made treacle toffee and toffee apples , It was really good in them days , Then becoming a teenager i used to go with mates down maes-y-nant onto a rope swing or slang as we used to call it , and swing across the river and jump off the furthest , or even climb the rocks down the reck , also do some trouting or catch penny baldheads haha , well thats what i know that they were called , Then one other thing as youngsters we all used to go walking up the mountain to couloured waters and slide down the water fall that was covered in green slime that helped to slide faster into the pool at the bottom , that was fun in them days and on very hot sunny days we took a picnic and stayed there for hours on end , then there was the youth club that many of us went to playing games of skill , but there was no computer kind of games in them days , so it was darts , table tennis , table soccer , pool etc , also a disco at least once a month by the sound barrier disco sound's , so them are some of the things that i remember from the 60's but i am sure there are other memories that could be added here from other like minded people .
thanks John .
