Penysarn, The Ancient Copper Mines c.1950
Photo ref:

More about this scene
Copper was extracted by the Romans here, but the present mines in Parys Mountain, near Amlwch, date from the 18th century, and were claimed to be the largest in the world during the Industrial Revolution. The mines were about to close when in 1768 fresh deposits of the copper were discovered. The workings around this redundant engine room and chimney building are a fine – or grim- reminder of those glorious days.
