More about this scene
An ancient royal burgh, Perth was once capital of Scotland. It was at Perth, in 1559, that John Knox gave his famous sermon from the pulpit of St John's Church, a powerful and emotive speech against idolatry which is regarded by many as the start of the Reformation in Scotland. Among documents preserved locally is a letter written by John Blair dated 7 November 1689. Blair was the postmaster-general, and in the letter he details the establishment of a postal service in the city.
