Move on 52 years from the last photograph, turn right-angles to your right, and the stalls are still the same but the car is making its presence felt. Behind the statue is the Forrest Stores, to its right SPQR Tobacconist's, Lee Bros. Hairdressers and Edward Privett, Gents Outfitters. Behind Ken Pett's green post office van on the left of the picture, you can just see the remains of Norman Burton's shop which burnt down during the early hours of 6 January 1948.

Fish In Petersfield Lake
As a lad in the 1950's a Sunday run to see auntie in Petersfield was are regular event. A trip to see the lake and try to spot the large carp that would often rise was a treat. On the road there we would often see 'The Butser Turf company lorries load with supplies. The lorries then were ex army 4 x 4 from the war.

Churchers College Ccf 1954
I distinctly remember taking part in one particular exercise on Petersfield Heath at the age of 15. We were divided into two detachments, one defending a position in a clump of trees on the high ground, and the other attacking it. Churcher's
This starts in 1938 when I was taken by my mother and ended up having tea with Bill Hogarth - Chinese tea, horrid. That September I started in Form One to be loudly proclaimed by Bill 'a dunderhead' as I could not understand Latin and most of the class had come through the prep school where it was taught. Churchers Cadet Corps
Thinking of my time in the aforesaid Cadet corps I clearly remember an exercise on the Heath when we were playing soldiers. To make things realistic we were using thunderflashes. Unfortunately the weather was hot and dry with the result that the "bangers" set fire to the gorse and bracken and the exercise had to be abandoned. Red faces among the staff, great amusement among the cadets.

Genealogy & Research Images

Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
