Growing Up
A Memory of Pickmere.
I grew up here ...happy memories , loved the lake and fun fair , surrounding countryside , would be either sat on a jetty with my feet in the water watching the boats come and go , or hiding in the dense shrubbery at the top of the hill overlooking the fun fair .
The glass bottomed boat , was a favourite , it fascinated me as a child , I'd go on it as often as I could .
The little beach area , with the line of trees , was where I learnt to swim, had many a picnic on the grassy bank over looking the lake , we used to walk around the lake at least once during the summer .
The walks with the dog to bluebell woods , a beautiful carpet of blue bells , the scent of them was beautiful , the picture is forever in my memories so beautiful .
Running up and down the bank of the caravan park on the way to and from the post office , past the garage , that always seemed busy.
The local chippy where pocket money got you a decent pile of chips , the hair dressers across from the entrance to the lake where i got my hair cut .
Walking through Platts field on the way to school , two fields I recall , it would take me longer to walk home than anyone else , I was a dreamer...
I hope one day to take my grand children to the lake , to show them where " Nanny " grew up .
The village seemed small to us children , small ,safe and friendly an ideal place to grow up .
