Some Victorian topographers were most offended by the word 'Piddle' and earlier guidebooks transformed it to the politer 'Puddle'. Hence, we get 'Puddletrenthide' and 'Puddlehinton'. But few locals today call these villages anything but Piddletrenthide and Piddlehinton.
