The Butt and Oyster is probably the most well-known pub on the East Coast, at Pin Mill, on the River Orwell. Across the river from here is Orwell Park, in the 18th century the home of 'Old Grog' - Admiral Vernon. It was he who established the system of allowing Royal Navy sailors their twice-daily ration of grog - rum and water.
