I had heard so much about this village & surrounding areas from my father, Arch Wallbank, who was born 1896 @ 46 Watling St. the corner of New st. he left for NZ in Oct. 1913 & died Auckland 1965..

My Dad was born in Clayton Le Moors, Lancashire county, but I have traced the Baxter family back to Polesworth in the 17th century where in ends. I wonder if there are any Baxters' still in that area. My goal is to visit Polesworth to do more research. Thanks in advance to anyone who might be helpful.

I am now an 82 years old great grandmother and I have lived in Australia for many years. My family lived in Coventry, and when I was 12 my sister and brother and I were evacuated to Polesworth. At first the billeting officer, a Mrs Straughan who was running the local Womens Volunteer service, couldn't find anyone who could take all 3 of us, so she took us to her lovely home Pooley Hall. One of the shops I remember well was Fosters. It was like a mini department store. We had some of our clothes from there. You could buy things and pay so much a week. It was how we lived then. I was born Marilynne Thompson at 17, The Lynch, Polesworth in January 1952. My mam and dad, Peg and Geoff Thompson both worked at Ensor's brickyard. When I was about two or three years old we moved to a cottage belonging to the firm in Tamworth Road. I believe the rent was 5 shillings a week. I have many fond memories of the Legion in Grendon Road Polesworth. It was demolished sometime in the 1980s, does anyone have any pictures of it or its members and committee, Many thanks, Neville
My husband, Terry Norman, was born in Polesworth and stayed there until he joined the army, then he moved away, never to return. He has a lot of good memories of Polesworth, but we have now settled in Norfolk and are very happy.
Does anyone have any information about John Guy who lived in Little Jims Cottage in the early 1960's? John was my fathers cousin and I understand that he was a musician.
