Porlock, On The Road To Hawkcombe 1890

More about this scene

The lane, still a woodland track higher up, leads from Porlock Church into Hawk Combe. Hawkcombe and Whitehall Cottages are there today, but a bridge now replaces the ford where the child and dog are standing. In 1891, to the left beyond the cottages, a new cemetery for the village was opened on land that actually belonged to Luccombe parish.
