Water Street

A Memory of Port Talbot.

I was born in 1924 @80 water street in the rear part of a sweetshop fronting on water street & owned by My Godmother Eva Parks-My Father worked in the steel mill & We moved to London in 1931 for My Father to obtain work which He did--in 1941 i joined the RAF & served in bomber command till 1946.
I remember as a child there was a railway crossing in water street possibly leading to the steel works.
I have searched for a picture of this crossing of no avail --some think i am imagining it but take it from Me it did exsist & many a time I had to wait for the barrier to be lifted to proceed.! Can you help Me with a image of this section of water street or area. I note from your website a photo of the slip rd. off the M4 & that is where My first school stood & I have a picture of that as it was.Regards,Frederick James

There was a railway crossing at the upper end of station road which led off water street. It was just down from the wasn't hotel and there was "Chidzoys" on the other side , the crossing caused no end of traffic jams!
