More about this scene

The Eastern Telegraph Co's large cable station was established in the valley just inland from the beach at Porthcurno, where undersea cables came ashore. A tennis court was laid out for the exercise of the workers who were stationed at this lonely spot. Note also the allotment gardens behind the station. This remote spot in the far south-west corner of Britain has played a major role in world communications and commerce.
