First Visit To Smugglers Cottage 1970
A Memory of Portreath.
My first visit to Cornwall saw my family's discovery of Portreath. I was 16 and was blown away by the wonderful seascape that the beach by Smugglers cottage presented.
I remember walking up from the sand to buy ice creams from the shop just inside the front door of the Cottage. My brother and I spent many hours "damming" the little stream that disgorged onto the beach just below this wonderful cottage.
I returned ten years later with my girlfriend (who later became my wife) to show her the Cornish place that had been indelibly etched on my memory, the cottage was no longer a shop/ hotel, however that part of Portreath beach still had a wonderful impact.
