Prestatyn, High Street c.1950

More about this scene
Prestatyn can claim a history that is tangible from Roman times with its own Roman bath house. Before the Chester to Holyhead railway opened in the 19th century, Prestatyn relied on agriculture and various mining and quarrying activities. The railway also took labour away to work in the industries of Flintshire - and brought in large numbers of tourists. It is not a busy day in this photograph, and the shop awnings, deep shadows and the light summer dresses all suggest a very hot day in post-war Wales. The Palladium is immediately to the photographer's right.
