More about this scene

Until the 1930s, trams ran along Prestbury High Street en route to the top of Cleeve Hill. A workman was employed to grease the rails at the sharp bend just out of sight in the distance. This prevented the outside wheel on its solid axle juddering as the tram took the corner. No doubt passengers were grateful for the greaser's efforts.
