More about this scene

The view down the street in 1950 is not greatly different from 50 years before, although a car has replaced the pony and trap. A sign of the growing commercialisation of the street can be seen in the Red House`s transformation to the District Bank, and the private house beyond has become a high class decorator. Just beyond the churchyard and the Belisha beacon is the Bridge Hotel, still a popular restaurant and hotel.

Percy Smith
My mum was born at the end of this row, near the Bollin, to Percy & Gertrude SMITH, in 1934. In 1978, Percy was recorded while he walked around the village sharing his encyclopedic knowledge. I will be dropping off CDs of this recording next weekend while we're at the Bridge Hotel, where my wife and I were married in 1997. A. Hine Minnesota

Broken Cross Post Office
my parents owned the piost office from about 1958-1965 - their names were albert (bill) edward wild and dorothy emma wild and the inscription on the board read "AE and DE Wild" before they owned it , it belonged to Vera and Dennis Eaton . my Dad died in 1964 and then my Mum sold the business on and moved back to Derby. i went to henbury primary school and sang at henbury church. Quest For My Ain Folk
I visited St Peter's in August 1976 as part of a search for traces of my ancestors, the De Vauxs of Adlington, French Hugenots who first settled from France, in 1630. They became Yeomen farmers on the Leghs Adlington estate and stayed there until late 1890's. A number of them lie buried in a crypt next to the Leghs lair. Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
