More about this scene
This vast open Market Hall was constructed in 1875, and the roof, carried on elaborately decorated cast-iron pillars and supports, covers an area of some 3,500 square yards. It stands at the centre of the town beside the Town Hall, which, although only completed in 1933, embodies the grand architectural style of its neighbouring buildings.
