More about this scene
Raby is first recorded in the 11th century, and is reputed to have been a royal residence of King Cnut. The castle dates from the 14th century, and was once the seat of the powerful Neville family. It was here in 1569 that the Rising in the North was planned; the intention was to depose Elizabeth I and replace her on the throne with Mary, Queen of Scots.
